My new studio
A few weeks ago, I got a wild hair to re-do our studio room. It had had a very large counter-high table in the center of the room. While this was great for cutting yards of fabric, it mostly ended up getting covered with piles of books, papers and detritus, not the mention that the table consumed the room making me feel cramped and claustrophobic. So, out went the table. Now the room is more open and I have a place to sit and do computer work that lets me look out the window. I’m still not sold on the arrangement yet but we’re making progress. Photos of the studio to follow (someday).
While we were in Chicago for Thanksgiving, I twisted Bob’s arm and made him take me to Ikea on Black Friday. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds. We went to the new Ikea in Bolingbrook and it wasn’t anymore crowded than the average Saturday. We scored lots of Ikea basics like cardboard magazine organizers, super-cheap lamps and tea lights but the coup de gras was a new chair and drawer unit for the studio.
My chair (top) called the Skruvsta from Ikea $139. The Bop chair (bottom) was featured in the December 2007 issue of Domino and costs $448. I think I got the better deal. The drawer unit is called Alex and is the paper monkey’s dream! It’s designed to hold A2 flat sheets (for the Americans, that’s 16.5″x23.5″). I am storing art-in-progress, sketchbooks, flat papers (scrapbook papers, sheets of wrapping paper, etc) and assorted ephemera. Its organizing bliss!
